Announcements

Masonvale is Open for Business

It gives us great pleasure to announce that Masonvale, Mason’s new apartment and townhome community, is now leasing to faculty and staff. Not only does Masonvale feature valuable amenities such as granite countertops, stainless steel-face appliances, spacious walk-in closets, and full-size washers and dryers; but it also offers the opportunity to live right on campus. Imagine how much easier your day could be without the hassle of the morning and evening commutes or how convenient it would be to be able to go home during lunch or between classes. Masonvale was built specifically with you in mind. With some faculty and staff already calling Masonvale their home, you, too, can be one of the first to enjoy this one-of-a-kind opportunity. Don’t miss this exciting chance to be a part of Masonvale from the beginning.

One, two, and three-bedroom units are available for immediate move-in so visit www.masonvale.com or email masonvale@lincolnapts.com for more information or to schedule a tour today.

Do You Have a Child Between the Ages of 6 & 16?

We are seeking child volunteers to participate in 2-3 hours of testing at the George Mason University Center for Psychological Services in downtown Fairfax. In thanks, your child will receive a $10 gift certificate and our eternal gratitude. Contact the course professor, Elana Maurin, PhD, at emaurin@gmu.edu to volunteer or for more information.

2009 White House Holiday Ornament Sale Coming

The Child Development Center is holding its 2nd White House Holiday Ornament Sale this fall.  Help the CDC with this fund raising program by purchasing these exquisite American-made ornaments.  The CDC is holding the cost of the ornament to the same amount as last year at $20/each. Each ornament comes in a blue gift box, ready for wrapping.

The 2009 White House ornament commemorates President Grover Cleveland's 24th presidency and is the second ornament commemorating Cleveland's presidency.  This year's ornament features a view of the South lawn and facade of the White House on a crispy winter evening.  Inside the window, a Christmas tree with bright lights and decorations illuminates the starry night from the Oval Room.  These lights pay tribute to the first Christmas tree in the White House to have electric lights.  The back of the ornament shows a glance of one of the many famous parties that the Cleveland family was known to throw.

To order early, contact Anchalee Burbach at 993-4786 or by email at aburbach@gmu.edu.

Kids' Clothing and Equipment Swap

The Support Group for Working Mothers at Mason in conjunction with the Office of Sustainability will be hosting a kids' clothing and equipment swap September 28 - 30 in Room 116 of the Johnson Center. Participants are encouraged to bring something in order to take something away, so there will be no exchange of money, just a good old fashioned swap meet. Collections only will begin at 9:00 am on Monday, September 28 and we will open for business from 12:00 noon - 4:00 pm on Monday, and 9:00 am - 4:00 pm on Tuesday and Wednesday. On Monday, we will also be giving out Mason Dining Wooden Nickels when you bring a bag of clothes or item to donate to the swap.  These are good for a dollar off your food and beverage purchases, so stop by before you pick up your morning coffee (while supplies last, so come early).

Think of us when you are cleaning out your closets this fall.  We are especially interested in outerwear, clothing items up to size 12 along with children's toys and equipment you no longer need.  We will even have a reserved spot in the Johnson Center loading dock, if you have large items to deliver.  Everything left over will be donated to Salvation Army at the end of the swap meet on Wednesday, September 30.

If you have questions or need additional information, contact Heather Aleknavage at 993-2295 or haleknav@gmu.edu.
